The owners of this brick two-flat in the heart of Logan Square wanted a space to live in and socialize it – on one level. This requires a balance of public and private – Increasing the openings of some rooms to others while closing off rooms to others. The kitchen is open to the dining and living rooms for guests to flow from host to guests, allowing social flow. A third of the the floor is private, for the owners – a quiet haven. The unfinished basement was cleared and finished as hobby rooms & home offices, with a guest suite and reading lounge with wet bar. The second floor was modestly renovated and preserved as a rental unit.
