Silver Beach, St. Joseph, Michigan

Silver Beach is the the name of a historic amusement park at the confluence of the St. Joseph River and Lake Michigan.  The city Fathers and Mothers wanted to recreate the ambiance and excitement of the long-lost park.  Sam Marts Architects & Planners was part of the design team that came together and in 5 design charrettes imagined this new dramatic facility.  The location, at St. Joseph’s front stoop, takes advantage of abandoned manufacturing facilities.

This is an example of extraordinary timber joinery. The timbers are fitted in a seemingly impossible decorative fashion. Used here to frame a “log cabin”, but more likely a “log palace”.
